Jon Arterton began his musical journey as a choirboy at Washington's National Cathedral. He holds a Master's Degree in choral conducting and voice from The New England Conservatory of Music. He was the founder and vocal arranger of The Flirtations, the proudly gay a cappella group seen on HBO, Good Morning America and in the film Philadelphia. He toured with the group for a decade, singing in hundreds of venues including Carnegie Hall. He also holds an MFA degree in theater and appeared in a Broadway show that closed the first night! He moved from New York City to Provincetown, Massachusetts at the very tip of Cape Cod in 1993. There he met his future husband James. In 2002 they founded The Outer Cape Chorale, a 150-voice community chorus specializing in classical choral works which Jon conducted until 2016 when they moved to the Tampa Bay, Florida area. There they founded the 120-voice One City Chorus specializing in songs of social justice which Jon conducted until 2025 when they moved to Brevard, NC. He served as Director of Music at U.U. churches in Provincetown and St. Petersburg, and while in Florida he prepared the chorus for the Florida Orchestra’s annual Sing Out Tampa Bay concerts for three years.
James Mack was born in Memphis, Tennessee and raised Southern Baptist. He went to a Southern BaptistUniversity to become a preacher, but when he came out in his early 20’s he decided to become a choir director instead, and transferred to Memphis State University where he majored in voice. He soon moved to New York City and began a career in the men's fashion industry as a store manager and buyer for Paul Stuart and Ermenegildo Zegna . He moved to Provincetown, Masschusetts in 1997 and began singing in the choir at the local Universalist Unitarian Meeting House where he met Jon. Living in Massachusetts, the first state in the union to allow same-sex marriage, they were legally married in 2005. James served as chaplain at the Meeting House, performing countless weddings and commitment ceremonies.
After he and Jon moved to sunny St Petersburg, Florida, they founded One City Chorus in 2016. James served as administrator of that wonderful community chorus for several years until he and Jon moved to Brevard, North Carolina, in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. He and Jon still perform together regularly and they sing in the Transylvania Choral Society, as well as the choir at Unitarian Universalists of Transylvania County, where they're active members.
